James Thomas was the son of Hiram F. and Melvina Kennon Henson. He was the brother of Sarah, Rebecca, Laura and William. His older 1/2 brother was John W. the son of Hiram and Mary Ann Freeze.Jim married Emma Margaret Hocker April 27. 1886 in Clinton Henry,Co., MO. Together they were parents of Mary Etta, Nella Elizabeth, Ona Myrtle, Thurman Peter, Hiram James, Elsa Leo, Pearl Emley, Guy Thomas, Oren William and Nelson Henson.


The picture at the top right is James Thomas [Jim] and Emma Margaret Hocker Henson in a tintype picture in their early marriage. Could have been their wedding picture, I don't know.

Obituary of James Thomas Henson

James Thomas Henson, son of Hirum and Melvina Henson was born near Fair Play, MO, Aug. 2, 1862; departed this life at 3 o'clock Friday morning, Feb. 9, 1945, at his home eight miles north of Bolivar, MO, at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 7 days.

He was united in marriage to Emma Margaret Hocker, April 27, 1886. To this union were born ten children, five sons and five daughters. Two daughters and one son have preceded him in death, also his loving companion who passed away fourteen years ago.

Those who are left to mourn his passing are four sons, Hirum James and Guy Thomas of Fillmore, Calif., Oren William of Ventura, Calif, and Nelson of Santa Paula, Calif; three daughters, Elsa McGee of Bolivar, Mrs. Clifford Piper of Weableau, and Mary Etta of the home. He leaves 15 grandchildren and 20 great- grandchildren, also a host of other relatives and friends.

He was converted some forty years ago and united with Center Point Baptist Church, of which he remained a faithful member until death.

Funeral services were held at the Erwin & Blue funeral chapel at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Feb. 11, with the Rev. Sterling Alleger officiating. Burial was in the Payne Cemetery.
