Richard L. Britt, Sr., 83, of Darlington, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008.

Mr. Britt was born November 8, 1924 in the Lake Swamp Community of Darlington County. He was the son of the late Robert Lawrence and Martha Hatchell Britt. Mr Britt was a United States Army veteran of WW II and served in the European Theater.

He was a lifelong member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Darlington where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, Elder, board member and Sunday school teacher. He was a member and Past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Mr. Britt was retired from Independent Life Insurance Company.

His hobbies included fishing, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 8 2008, at 2 PM in the First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mrs. Agnes Williams Britt; two daughters, Iris (Ricky) Johnson and Donna (Bruce) Weatherford both of Darlington; one son, Richard L. (Starr) Britt, Jr. of Darlington; one brother, Carl (Frances) Britt of Darlington; one sister, Grace (Thomas) Weaver of Georgia; Eleven grandchildren, Melissa Maddock, Heather Huggins, Daniel Britt, Tara Barnhart, Mitch Weatherford, Jill Thompson, Britt Weatherford, Kelly Anderson, Billy Brasington, Rick Jonson, Rita Johnson and twenty great-grandchildren.

Mr. Britt is preceded in death by three brothers, James O. Britt, Ernest W. Britt and Lawrence Britt, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 6 PM until 8 PM, Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home in Darlington and at all other times at the home of Donna and Bruce Weatherford, 1228 Syracuse St., Darlington.
