Patrolman Edgington, a corporal with the Los Angeles County Harbor Patrol, was writing a ticket near Via Marina Dr. and Panay Way when a deranged attacker, Stuart Schwebel, 51 of Covina, approached the officer. He slashed him with a knife and Edgington drew his service revolver, and fired. Schwebel stabbed Edgington again, killing him. He took his gun and fled. He was killed a short time later by L.A. County Deputies who were called to the scene.
