An on-duty Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff, Pelino was killed in the line of duty. Assigned to the remote Gorman sub-station, he had arrested a mentally ill man and was booking him at the station. The Gorman Station was unique in that the resident deputy also lived there with his family.
