An LAPD Officer assigned to the Lincoln Heights Station, he responded to a family disturbance at 2053 1/2 Dayton Avenue, the home of Mrs. Ether Hernandez. They arrived to find Luis Chavarria involved in a fight with his common-law-wife over their son. Chavarria opened fire, killing Officer Beck. He was later sentenced to life in prison.
