MRS. NANCY E. CHESHIRE DEAD.
Mrs. Nancy E. Cheshire died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T. A. Windell, Saturday noon of a complication of diseases, after a year's illness.
Mrs. Cheshire's maiden name was Nancy Fowler. She was the 11th child of the 16 children of John Fowler. She was born in Morgan County, Indiana, April 30, 1845. The Fowler family came to Kansas in 1855, one of the first families to settle in Lyon County. In 1861 she was married to William H. Brown. To them were born six children. Several years after Mr. Brown's death she was married to James A. Cheshire. To them was born one child. Mrs. Cheshire died nine years ago.
Mrs. Cheshire was a member of the Friends Church. She was also a member of the Fraternal Aid Union, and also of the Garfield Circle, both Mr. Brown and Mr. Cheshire being veterans of the Civil War.
She is survived the three daughters, Mrs. J. H. Hunt, of Kansas City; Mrs. T. D. Roberts and Mrs. T. A. Windell, of Emporia; two sons, J. F. Brown, of Cameron, Texas, and H. M. Brown, of Kansas City. She also is survived by 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her surviving brothers are Eli, Ruffin, and Dorris Fowler, of Emporia; J. A. and Alison Fowler, of Independence, and Irnton (sic) Fowler, of St. Louis, Mo. A sister, Mrs. W. H. Stack, of Emporia, also survives. All of her children are in Emporia to attend the funeral.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Friends Church, conducted by the Rev. George C. Wise, assisted by the Rev. W. B. Gillis. Interment was made in Hunt Cemetery.
