John Howard Faison, III Mr. Faison, 85, of Matthews died peacefully on December 6, 2009, surrounded by family members. He was born on November 26, 1924, in Faison, North Carolina, the son of John Howard Faison, Jr. and Marie Barfield Faison.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Faison Rouse, daughter, Jennie Faison Latty, and son, Edgar Wright Faison. He is survived by his beloved wife and companion of 62 years, Janet Wright Faison, his son, John Howard Faison, IV, five grandchildren, Michele Faison Bogan, Jessica Faison Lightfoot, Elizabeth Latty Bridges, John Robbins Faison, and Richard Allen Latty, Jr. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Gregory Herman, Leigh Bogan, John Lightfoot, Zachary Lightfoot, and Trip Latty. He will be sorely missed by the family that he cared so much for and will be remembered with love and laughter.
His family will remember his critiques of food, his singing and whistling, and his love of books. His extensive library is a testament to the value that he placed on knowledge. John retired from Folger Buick after thirty-five years with the company. A World War II Veteran, John served in the South Pacific as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps.
The Faison family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 8, at Heritage Funeral Home, 4431 Old Monroe Road, Indian Trail, NC. A service to celebrate John's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, also at Heritage. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Union County Animal Shelter, 3340 Presson Rd., Monroe, NC 28112.
