John R. Miley, 80, of Eau Claire, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Dove Healthcare Nursing & Rehabilitation.

John was born March 23, 1924, in the town of Union, Eau Claire County to John and Mary (Sheils) Miley. He attended Union Valley Grade School and graduated from Eau Claire Senior High in 1941. He attended Vocational School for tool and die and then worked in Milwaukee, Wis. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII from 1941-45 stationed in the South Pacific. He then worked for the Eau Claire County Highway Department until 1952 when he returned home to operate his father's farm due to his father's illness. He then worked for Ed Phillips and Sons for 27 years where he was Union Steward for Teamsters Union Local 662. He married Vivian Olson on July 20, 1973, in Black River Falls. After retirement he worked for Shoppers Hotline in maintenance and delivery until the late 1990s.

John enjoyed life and had a wit and sense of humor unmatched by any other. He loved the Green Bay Packers and attended several games with his brother Mike and friends.

John is survived by his wife, Vivian; sons, Steven (Cindy) of Racine, Wis., James (Jeanne) of Temecula, Calif., Dale (Charlotte) Olson of Hastings, Minn.; daughters, Nancy Hestikin and Patricia Riste of Eau Claire; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, William (Marlys) of Clinton, Mo., Michael (special friend Judy) of the town of Union; two sisters, Mary "Beth" (Harold) Dufner of Ladysmith, Wis., Margaret McCollow of Baraboo, Wis.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife Lauralee Hoyt; and brother-in-law Edward McCollow.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2004, at the Golden Funeral Home, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave., with Rev. Edmund Klimek officiating. Inurnment will be in Squaw Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Black River Falls, Wis., at a later date.

Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at the Golden Funeral Home where there will be a 6 p.m. prayer service, and Thursday one hour prior to the service.
