Bernard Parker, 86, came into the presence and loving arms of his Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus Christ on the morning of Saturday, May 26, 2007. He was born in Caroline County to the late John and Maggie Parker.
Bernard proudly and without hesitation, served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. He retired from the Naval Weapons Station in 1982 after more than 35 years in the Civil Service. After his retirement, his daily joy was tending to his garden. He was an active member of Harbor Baptist Church in Hampton, until his illness prevented him from attending.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Randy; two brothers; and four sisters. At the time of his death he was survived by his loving wife of almost 34 years, Sandy; three daughters, one son, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister and one brother. Visitation was on Tuesday, May 29, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home and then he was laid to rest on that same day at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
