Floyd moved with his family to Petersburg, Texas in 1929, where his father opened Petersburg Food Store. Floyd helped in the store and later took it over, along with his brother Loyd Howard Eaves, when their father retired due to poor health.

He married Mildred Tisdel on November 3, 1934 and they had three children; Myrna Gail, James Garland (1940-2016) and Glen Douglas Eaves (1946-2014). In 1937, Floyd was appointed as the Postmaster in Petersburg.

After 1940, they moved to Lubbock, Texas, where Floyd worked in insurance sales and except for a couple of years in Medford, Oregon, they lived in Lubbock until Floyd retired. Then they moved to Lewisville, Texas to be near their daughter. Floyd managed a Goodwill Store in Denton for several years.

Floyd was a member of First Baptist Church of Petersburg, Texas, and Trinity Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas. He was survived by his mother, his wife, his three children and nine grandchildren.
