PFC Lawrence E. Ferguson of Ogdensburg died of wounds received in France July 30, according to a War Department message November 1 to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ferguson, 937 LaFayette St. They were notified August 21 that he had been seriously wounded.
Pfc Ferguson was born in this city about 19 years ago and after joining the Army was assigned to the 75th Division. He trained at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He left for overseas a year ago and went to France on D-Day, June 6, 1944. As a youth he attended the George Hall Junior High School and the OFA. He was a Journal carrier boy during his school days, covering the 500 and 600 blocks of Elizabeth St and the 700 block of Montgomery Street. He was the sixth former Journal carrier to make the supreme sacrifice for his country in the war for the preservation of world freedom.
Besides his parents, PFC Ferguson is survived by four sisters and three brothers; Mrs. Oscar Brabant, Mrs. Marie Ferguson, Mrs. George Swan, Mrs. Wallace Webster, Martin Adrian and Charles, all living her except Martin who is in the Army.
