Robert W. Gates, 78, of Dodson, died Monday, July 12, 1971, at 3 a.m. in Winnfield General Hospital.

He was choir director at Dodson Baptist Church of which he was a member, and was rural mail carrier on Route 1, Dodson, for more than 20 years. He retired from that position in 1963.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mollie W. Gates of Dodson; two sons, Bobby Ray Gates of Fayetteville, Ark., and C. B. Gates of Shreveport; two brothers, Houston Gates and Reggie Gates, both of Winnfield; three sisters, Mrs. Maudie Taylor of Beaumont, Texas, Mrs. Marie Green of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Ruby Pepper of Baton Rouge, and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Southern here with Rev. Bert Beams officiating and Rev. Willie James assisting. Burial was in Harmony Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers included Grover Jeter, Paul Gaar, J. P. Rudd, Loy Gaar, Troy Lee Kelly, C. B. King.
