Virgil Orton (Peck) Garrett, 79, of Paris, Tenn. formerly of Hayti, died Jan. 9 at Henry County Medical Center in Paris.
Born May 29, 1921 in Armorel, Ark., he was the son of the late John Jonah Garrett and Emily Orton Garrett.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Paris, the Masonic Lodge in Caruthersville, the Hayti Lions Club and the Paris Elks Lodge. He also was a WWII veteran serving in the Army and a United States Postal Carrier until his retirement.
He was united in marriage to Lenita Jasamyn Garrett on Aug. 29, 1942. She preceded him in death on Aug. 17, 1983.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Glen Garrett and wife Connie of Paris and Dr. Guy John Garret of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sisters, Mary Dobbins of Hayti and Opal Robertson of Kennett; one brother, Willard D. Garrett of Kennett; four grandchildren, Autumn DeGroot and husband Jack, Kevin Garret and wife Emilee, Emily K. Garrett, and Alanna Jasamyn Garrett; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Jan 12 at the LeDon Chapel in Paris.
Graveside services were held Jan. 13 at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Hayti with the Rev. Dan Fulbright officiating.
