The oldest son of Gus Nichols and Myrtle Ptomey, LTC Nichols served with the United States Air Force for 27 years before retiring. His military career spanned three wars. He had served as a Command Pilot, Liaison Officer for the Forward Air Control and as Commander of the 465th Special Operations Group in Holley, Florida. He received numerous awards, citations and metals for his service to his country. He was survived by his wife Marian Harding Nichols and one son.
