World War I Italian Army General, Marshal of Italy. In 1912 during the Libyan war he was commander of a regiment, he distinguished himself in Zanzur. At the beginning of World War I, he was head of department operations at the supreme command. In 1917 he directed with skill the 33th Army Corps on the Carso. After the battle of Caporetto and Italian retreat, he became Chief of Staff and he passed with successfully the most critical phase of the stabilization on the line Grappa-Piave. He was a Italian senator from February 1918 and he was honored with the title of Duca della Vittoria in December 1921. In Italian dictator Benito Mussolini's first government, he was Minister of War. Following this experience government on April 30, 1924, he retired to private life and in the same year he was honored with the degree of Marshal of Italy.
