He was born Otto Christian Ernst but took the first name of Arthur. His parents were, Adolph Henry Ernst and Katherine Mueller. He was one of seven children.
On April 2, 1913, he was united in marriage to Mary Alice Henson at the Metodist Episcopal Church in Marysville. At the time he was employed as 'Night Driver' for the United States Hotel, also in Marysville. The hotel was their home for the time being.
Arthur then went to work for the Appeal Democrat which was the local newspaper, all the time building up a business of delivering many newspapers from differant cities to homes and businesses in the area. His wife helped with this, even delivering papers on her bicycle when she was eight months pregnant.
Four children were born to them, a son that strangled on its cord, a daughter, Margaret, a son Frank and a daughter, Alice, who my mother.
When Alice was about 3 years old her parents were divorced.
Arthur remarried to Mary Emma Bristow in Sept. of 1929 in Reno, NV.
The day that Arthur died, Alice, now an adult, was living in the home and working for her father. She said they were getting ready to leave for work. Her father said he'd sit on the sofa and wait for her. When she was ready, she said she called out to him but he didn't answer. She went into the front room and spoke to him, saying she was ready. When he didn't answer she thought he had dozed off. She went over to him and shook him gently. She said he slumped over and his hat fell off. She adored her father and this was really a blow she never really got over.

He was my maternal grandfather.
