Ambrose was born to William E. Gilpin and Ruth Tucker. He was one of ten children.

On 21 Oct 1830, he married Nancy Adkins in Adair Co., KY, and had six children:

~ Elias Bradford who married Mary Edna Edwards

~ John W. who married 1st Keithly Ann Adkins and 2nd Martha Jane Eades

~ Elizabeth who remained single and died at the home of her sister Abigail.

~ Abigail who married James W. Marple

~ Katherine who married John O. Senior

~ George who married Margaret M. Samuels.


After the death of Nancy in 1863, Ambrose married Arabella Frances Crane 12 Jan 1865 in Boone Co., MO. She had been married to Elman Nash by whom she had at least 5 children. She and Ambrose were the parents of:

~ James Ambrose who married Nora Meng

~ Cordelia Ann who married John Turner

~ Isreal Winfrey who married Laura Ballenger Cunningham

~ Laura Celia who married Julius Edwin Edwards.


Ambrose and his brother Green had adjoining land near present day Deer Park Wildlife Refuge.

Ambrose was my husband's great great great Grandfather.
