Joseph's first wife was Lavinia Hudson, born 1790 in South Carolina. They were married in 1810. She died 11 Mar 1833 after giving birth to their eighth child, William Ellis. It is not known where she was buried. Their children were Ellender, Martella, David Abner, Lucy Ann, Mary Lucinda, Abram, Frances "Fannie", and William Ellis. Soon after Lavinia's death, Joseph moved to Dale County, Alabama, where he married Mary Ann "Polly" Watson, and they had a son, John Redding Blocker.

Gravesite Details
according to historical records, this cemetery originally was known as Mt Olive Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Joseph Blocker's grave was located near the present entrance to the cemetery, but the marker was made of wood and no longer exists.
