Joan Yvonne Thomas Barnett, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all she met, passed away in her home the evening of December 12, 2012. Born in Alberta, Canada on October 18th, 1932 and raised by her parents Annie and Edwin Thomas, Joan graduated from Washington State College in 1957 with a degree in home economics and taught school in Moses Lake, Washington and San Mateo, California. Joan and her loving husband of 53 years, Dr. David Barnett, have lived in Burlingame, California since 1966.
Family and friends meant everything to Joan and she was very proud of her children and grandchildren, enjoying all occasions they spent together. Joan and Dave have friends all around the country, the result of Dave's active participation in the American Veterinary Medical Association. With Joan at his side, Dave was deeply involved with the AVMA and was elected to serve as President in 1994.
Joan will be remembered for her outgoing and friendly ways, her bright and generous spirit, and the energy she expressed through her social gifts and skills. She loved to cook and entertain and in particular visit Borrego Springs to be with friends and enjoy the desert and all of its wonderful bounty.
Joan is survived by her husband Dave, daughters Pamela and Denise, their husbands Bill and Andrew, son Tom and his wife Shannon, and grandchildren Jake, Andrea, Sam and Hank. She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
