He was a native of Stokes County, N.C., and had resided in Jacksonville for 38 years, where he was a self-employed builder and member of Southside Church of God.
Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Raymell; three devoted sons, Eddie, Thomas and Tommy Ray Pyrtle; brothers and sister Larry and Jamie Pyrtle, and Marie Davis, all of High Point, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home in Jacksonville by the Rev. Danny White. Burial will be in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
