Jonell Hurst Harper, 74, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2010. She was born August 5, 1936 in Jacksonville, Florida, where she was a lifelong resident, to the late Daniel and Myrtle Evelyn Hurst. Jonell had a BS degree in Theology, was a member of North Jacksonville Baptist Church, and was a loving mother, grandmother and will be dearly missed by all. She is predeceased by her husband and sweetheart of 56 years, Leman Harper; brother, Sonny Hurst; sisters, Louise Hurst Camp and Myrtice Mathews. Jonell is survived by her daughters, Jeanette Green (Mike), Deborah Smith (Frank) and Donna Cheek (Jack) all of Jacksonville; sisters, Betty Boucher and Faye Coleman, both of Atlanta; grandchildren, Chris Cheek (Julia), Christina Smith, Jack Cheek IV, Melissa Stafford (Tommy), Misty Smith (Tony) and Jodie Thorsen (Brad); 7 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 28 at 11 a.m. at North Jacksonville Baptist Church, 8531 North Main Street, Jacksonville, with Rev. Josh Reavis officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, October 27, today, from 6-8 p.m. at Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Road, Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Jacksonville Baptist Church.
