"Mrs. Martha J. Hovey, fifty-two years old, 6231 Brown street, died at a local hospital at 5 o'clock Thursday afternoon. The Rev. E. C. Baird, a former pastor of the family, will officiate at the services at King Hill Christian Church Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in King Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Hovey is survived by her husband, Ira J. Hovey; a daughter, Etta; and four sons, Beaumont and Ira of the home, Charles near De Kalb and James with Company M, Fourth Missouri Infantry at Camp Clarke, Nevada, Mo. Mrs. Hovey, who was born and reared on a farm three miles south of De Kalb, removed from that neighborhood to south St Joseph thirteen years ago." St Joseph News-Press, August 17, 1917
