Roger Lee Kroth, 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jane; sons, Michael and wife Lana of Boise, ID and David of Santa Clarita, CA; daughters, Marianne of Albuquerque, NM and Amy Holt and husband Mike of Portales, NM; five grandchildren, Shane (Lisa) and Piper Kroth, Kacy (Lukas) Cash, A1C Travis Holt and Jason Gonzales; five great-grandchildren, Alex, Madison, Karabella, Marlee and Abrahm; and other relatives and friends. Roger was born on October 10, 1927 in Boston, MA to Milton and Hazel Bender Kroth. After graduating from high school in Winfield, KS, Roger joined the Navy at the end of WWII, where he served as a weatherman. In life, Roger valued family, friends, church, tennis and education. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees at the University of Iowa, and later earned his Doctorate in Special Education at the University of Kansas. One of his greatest adventures was working his way around the world with Dave Burns on a Norwegian merchant marine ship. After he retired, Roger volunteered at the VA Hospital and the Erna Fergusson Library. He was an active member of the Old Codger's Club and the Mile High Optimist Club, as well as a long-time member of St. John's United Methodist Church. A celebration of Roger's life will be held on Friday, November 26, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at French-Lomas Chapel. Immediately following the memorial, a graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00 P.M. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Roger's name to the charity of your choice.
