Bessie was born at Diamond Farm.
After her parents moved from the farm
into McMinnville, Bessie enrolled in Linfield College. She graduated from the regular college courses in 1903, receiving the degree, Bachelor of Letters. Two years later she graduated from the conservatory of Music, receiving the degree, Bachelor of Music.
Bessie continued her interest in music, playing the piano and participating in musical activities of the San Jose Long Live and Like It Club Senior Citizens Group.
