Lafayette, Or. Mar. 15 - On Wednesday March 8th occured the death of one of our oldest residents and pioneers, Mr. J.H. Olds who for some time has been a sufferer of dropsy of the heart which caused his death.

Mr. Olds was born in Seneca county, Ohio in the year 1830 and crossed the plains with friends in 1850 coming to Yamhill county where he has since resided.

On arriving here he was married to Nancy Parker who preceeded him to the great unknown four years ago, her death resulting from injuries sustained in a railroad accident.

Six children were born to this union four of whom remain to mourn his loss, Mrs. Blunden and Vede Olds of Portland, Mrs. C.C. Ferguson of Newberg and P.P. Olds of Lafayette. Mr. J.C. Olds of Olds, Wortman & King of Portland, is a nephew. Mr Olds died as he lived, loving his fellowmen and the fulfilling of the golden rule was the pride of his life.
