 ESTELA "Stella" BALDONADO NETTLES (deceased-born 1923).   In their early years, Stella and her sister, Lucy, both had problems with their eyes and qualified to attend the School for the Blind in Alamogordo NM, but later graduated from Belén HS.  Stella was considered partially blind and learned to read Braille.  She met her husband on a blind date and it was love at first sight; she married Lonnie Nettles... they had one son and two daughters.  She worked as a cafeteria worker in the Albuquerque School System and loved tutoring children in reading. She died of ovarian cancer at the age of 58 in 1982.

Mrs. Estela Baldonado Nettles, 58, died Saturday. She is survived by her husband Lonnie Z. Nettles of the family home, a son, Leonard J. Nettles and his wife Kay of Orange, CA; two daughters, Miss Agnes P. Nettles and Mrs. Beatrice Kurts and her husband, Dick both of Albuquerque; tow brothers Toribio Baldonado and Jose "Dofie" Baldonado, Albuquerque; a s sister Mrs. Lucy Gonzales of Hollywood, CA. and three grandchildren, Diann Nettles, Rachele Nettles and Andrew Kurtz.

Estela Baldonado Nettles will be held Tuesday from the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbears will be Dofie Baldonado, Toribio Baldonado, Richard Baldonado, Gary Baldonado, Albert Baldonado, Leonard Nettles, Dick Kurtz and Andrew Kurtz. Visitations will be from 4 p.m. today and a rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m at Salazar and Sons Mortuary, 3rd and Lead SW.
