MATEUS, Stella Marie Lawrence -- Passed away at her residence in Belmont, CA on Nov. 14, 2000 at the age of 80 years. Beloved wife of 60 years to Carlos A. Mateus; loving mother of Carol A. Mateus of Belmont, CA and Charles Robert Mateus of Redwood City, CA; mother-in law of Virginia Mateus; cherished grandmother of Veronica Ann and Elena Marie Mateus; dear sister of Albert L. Lawrence of El Paso, Tx. Survived also by her by her sister-in Law, Julia Lawrence, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mateus was a native of El Paso, TX and had lived in the Peninsula for the past 40 years. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Marshall Electric Co. of San Carlos. A long time member of the Belmont Women's Club, Founder of the Inter-American Service Organization. She started the Volunteer Interpreter program at San Mateo Co. General Hospital. She also served in the Comprehensive Health Planning Council for the County of San Mateo for many years. Director of United Way. She was very active in charitable causes benefiting Hispanic people and taught English classes for many years. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 18, 2000 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, #1 Notre Dame Ave. in San Mateo, CA. The Vigil service will be held at 7:00 P.M., Friday, November 17, 2000 at the Colonial Mortuary of Crosby-N. Gray & Co., #2 Park Rd., Burlingame, CA. Interment is at Holy Cross Cemetery in Menlo Park, CA
