Mrs. J. T. Glass Passes Away Here

Mrs. Annie Aretta Glass, daughter of a pioneer Methodist minister, Rev. and Mrs. D. C. Strange, was born October 22, 1865, in Cahaba, Alabama. Her parents came to Texas and settled at Powell Dale in 1877. She finished her schooling at Meridian and taught the first school at Kopperl with Dr. Glass, where they were united in marriage December 24, 1882.

To this happy union thirteen children were born, four of whom are deceased, nine living, with six of them present on this sad occasion.

Mrs. Glass was converted at Womack under the preaching of her father in a union meeting about 1884 and joined a newly organized Baptist Church with her husband. About 1906 she moved her membership to the Clifton Baptist Church where it has remained for the past 32 years. She has been a most faithful and devoted Christian wife, mother, friend, and neighbor through the years. Her beautiful, serene, Christian life radiated comfort and cheer constantly to those about her and her friends may be numbered by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her devoted children and faithful husband rise up and call her "Blessed."

She was one of the few remaining charter members of the Regina Chapter No. 283, of the O.E.S., of which she was one-time Guard of Honor.

During the active years of her life she served in a most acceptable manner in various civic and church organizations. She has served as President of the Women's Missionary Union of the Baptist Church and President of the P.T.A.

After suffering patiently for a number of years with a heart ailment, she succumbed with a severe attack which lasted only a few hours, and she was ushered into her eternal reward at 2:10 Tuesday afternoon, August 30, 1938.

Along with the bereft husband and children, two sisters, two brothers, and a host of other relatives and friends mourn her temporary separation from us, but we rejoice in her abundant entrance into the haven of eternal rest where there will be no more cares or suffering.

Rev. G. B. Kendall was assisted in the funeral service by Rev. Hayden Edwards and Rev. J. P. Gilliam.

The following men served as pallbearers: B. R. Arthur, H. P. Jones, J. L. Dunnica, H. L. Womack, H. R. Hill and W. P. Gilliam.

Interment was made in the Clifton Cemetery.
