He was born to Tom Jerry and Mattie Elizabeth Cherry Chapman.

T.J. was a member of the First Baptist Church and CIA Sunday school class and was the President of The Texas Surveyors Association from 1972 to 1973. He was a Mason and member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner.

Mr. Chapman served in the United States Navy.
T.J. worked for Shell Oil for 25 years in the Land department as Chief Surveyor and Landman. He then worked for Mitchell Energy for 11 years before retiring. After retiring he continued to work as an independent Landman.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Parkhill and brothers, Herbert, Joe and Bill Chapman.

He is survived by his loving family including his wife, Marlene of Tyler; daughters, Jan Unser and husband Mike of Quinlan, Shirley Baldwin and husband Joe of Roanoke; sons, Danny Rex Evatt of Snoqualmie, Washington and Danny Jay Chapman of Greenville; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanie Bullard and Helen Burnett, both of Garland and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Anderson and members of the C.I.A. Sunday school class at the first Baptist Church in Tyler.
