Johnnie Lee Jones was born on May 25, 1929 in Holly Hill, South Carolina to the late Hayward and Carrie Jones.

He confessed Christ at an early age. He served in the United States Army from 1948 to 1951 as a Private First Class during the Korean war. He then moved to the Bronx, New York. He was a member of St. Alban Baptist Church for several years. In New York, he also met and was united in marriage to Dorothy Burrell. To this union one child was born, Michael Hayward Jones. He also has one daughter, Mildred Franklin. He is preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Dorothy; a son Michael of New York; a grandson, Michael Jr. of New York; a daughter Mildred Franklin; a brother, Robert and his wife, Lois of Dayton, Ohio a brother, Ronnie and wife Charlotte of Dayton, Ohio; a sister Flora of Dayton, Ohio; and host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends
