Roy J. Getzel, age 81, passed away on Monday August 6, 2012 at Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home in New York, NY. He was born in New York City on March 24, 1931. He was a lifelong resident of Manhattan. He is the son of the late Herman S. died 1977 and Lillian Reingold Getzel died 1975.
Mr. Getzel was a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, serving during the Korean War.
He received his Master's degree in English from New York University and was a Special Education Teacher. He also served on the New York City Board of Education and was a Lecturer for City College of New York.
Survivors include 1 sister; Toby and her husband Bernard Cusano of Annandale, NJ. 1 nephew; Christopher A. and his wife Tik Cusano of Chiang Mai, Thailand. 2 nieces; Nicole S. Cusano and her husband Richard Andrew of Shelburne, MA and Maria C. Cusano and her husband Nelson ‘Burt' Beckwith of Somerville, MA. 3 great-nieces and nephews; Isabela and Milo Cusano-Andrew and Ben Cusano and his good friend and caretaker and neighbor Ronald Walton.
