BIOGRAPHY
Alhaja Mermunat A. Raji was born some eighty-six years ago to Papa Ladani Sadiq Adebisi of Akerara Compound, Isale Agbara, Osogbo and Madam Seliatu Abeke Adebisi of Aresa Compound, Osogbo.

She was betrothed to Pa Raji Adedapo of Ajana Compound, Isale-Osun Osogbo about sixty-four years ago in Kumasi, Ghana. Mama was blessed with children, grand-children and great-grand-children.

Mama spent her childhood in Ghana in a town called Kadjebi in the Volta Region and Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana and later in Kumasi where she got married to Pa Raji Adedapo (a.k.a.) "Eko".

She started her trade in a small way by selling foodstuff and ingredients in Kumasi. The couple later moved to Mampong-Ashanti, Ghana where she was a successful trader who dealt in many commodities e.g. clothes, provisions, consumer products and tie and dye business.

She was a Factor to many companies such as UAC. UTC, CFAO, JOHN HOLT, COMMONWEALTH TRUST, PZ, LEVER BROTHERS, GNTC and GOLD STAR Company, all in Ghana.

The Raji Family moved back to Osogbo, Nigeria in 1969 in the wake of the Aliens Compliance Act enacted by the Government of Ghana. She reestablished her trade with John Holt and Unilever after the initial difficulty that followed the change of environment. She was also a Distributor for Okin Biscuits, Offa.

Her husband passed away in June 1973 and this triggered a lot of tribulations, in the sense that she lost her capital as a result of staying indoors for five months as a widow. However, through the grace of Almighty Allah (SWT) and her own resourcefulness and perseverance, she was able to rebuild her business.

Even though Papa and Mama did not have any formal education, they were firm believers in education. They trained all their children as well as some of those of their siblings. To facilitate her business and banking undertakings, Mama learned to sign her name.

Alhaja Memunat Raji had many commendable qualities with regards to financial management and dispute resolution. She worked very hard to keep her extended family united. She was relied upon many times to settle difficult issues involving marriage, family disputes and inheritance issues, at times outside her own family, due to her sincerity and fairness of judgement. In fact she was a Bridge-builder.

Mama was a devout Muslim and this earned her many honours. She was the Agbesinga-Adeen of Aresa Mosque and Iya Suna of Zumratul-Shohaddai Mosque, Okefia, Osogbo.

She was a community leader and she touched many lives. She mobilized her mosque to secure a land for the building in Okefia. She also mobilized the Ibu-Amo Community to secure a transformer from the Chairman of Osogbo Local Government, among her numerous contributions.

A mother in a million, Mama cared for everybody. She loved to have people around her and nobody visited her without benefiting from her useful advice. Like her husband, Mama was a great philantropist for people in need.

Mama's courage, faithfulness and strong belief in the Almighty is demonstrated by her being widowed for over 33 years and her facing the ups and downs of life with equanimity.

May the Almighty Allah (SWT) grant her kind soul Aljannah Firdaus, Amen.
