Her condition was aggravated by an automobile accident caused by a hit and run driver while crossing Imperial Highway in Los Angeles, California while returning from food shopping. Her hip was broken in the automobile accident. She was living with her adopted daughter Selena Mary Rogers Walton at the time of her death. Her condition never improved and she was bedridden until her death in 1948. Her daughter Mary was at her bedside.
