He was a native of Guilford County and a veteran of World War II service in the U. S. Coast Guard. He was a Baptist.
Surviving are son, Michael Whitt of Lexington, Ky.; sisters, Miss Nina M. Whitt and Mrs. B. R. Clapp of Greensboro, Mrs. R. B. Nelson of Fayetteville, W. Va., Mrs. R. L. Stack of Belmont; brother, N. J. Whitt of Siler City.
