Luke was a veteran of the US Air Force having served in both the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam War. He was an active member of the Masons and was a resident of the Masonic Home in Greensboro. Luke was a retired mail carrier for the US Postal Service. He was a long standing member of Glenwood United Methodist Church.

Luke was preceded in death by his wife, Martha S. Allen. He is survived by his brother, Jack Carlton Allen; daughter, Tanya Allen Froeber; son, Michael Kelly Allen; and grandchildren, Raleigh, Dahlia and Jackson Froeber and Ryan Allen.
