When Max was only 16 years old he ran away from home trying to go to Canada to join the Canadian Army to fight in WWII. He did come back home, and served in the United States Army, Co. B. 64th engineers between March 23rd, 1943 and Feb 20th, 1946. He died in a plane crash In Dunkirk NY in December of 1946. He was engaged to be married to Mabel May Hopkins at the time of his death. Mabel went on to marry another aviator and Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, Harold P. Vance in 1947.
