Theodore Oren, state school retiree

Theodore "Pete" Oren, 79, of Brakeley Gardens, died Monday, Sept. 20, in Warren Hospital, where he was admitted earlier in the day.
He worked at the Alpha Coal and Oil Co. in Alpha and later for 18 years was a mechanic and set up man for the former Sanco Piece and Dye Words in Phillipsburg. He was last employed as a cottage training supervisor for the Hunterdon State School in Clinton before retiring in 1979.
Born Oct. 3, 1913, in Alpha, he was a son of the late Jeremiah and Lizzie Bellis Oren. He lived in the Phillipsburg area all his life.
He was an active volunteer at Warren Hospital for 12 years, and was visitation chairman for Warren County Ostomy Association.
His first wife, the former Elizabeth DeHart, died in 1987.
He and his second wife, the former Hazel Hamlin, observed their 25th wedding anniversary last October.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, one of Phillipsburg and one of Foley, AL; a stepson of Long Island NY; a stepdaughter of Washington; a brother of Easton; a sister of Phillipsburg; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
