Mrs Emma J. Reading, 89, an '89er who had lived in Tahlequah for the last three years, died Tuesday afternoon in St Anthony Hospital after a month's illness.
She was born in Plymouth, England and came to Marietta, OH, as a child. Later she lived in Great Bend, KS, and made the run to Oklahoma City in 1889. Her husband, the late James Reading, for many years operated a hat shop here. She lived in the city from 1889 until three years ago.
Survivors are four daughters, Mrs Vera Hani, Tahlequah; Mrs Ellis Stephenson, 2721 NW 21 St; Mrs John Halpern, Mexico City; and Mrs H. A. Phillips, Jaroso, CO; three sons, John Reading, 3219 NW 26 St; Ivan and Ralph Reading, both of Tahlequah; and a sister, Mrs Mary Edwards, Loma Linda, CA.
Services will be 3:30 pm Wednesday at Street & Draper Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
