American Naval Architect. Founder of the of the naval architectural firm Gibbs and Cox. Responsible for the reconstruction of the WWI troop transport Vaterland into the passenger liner Leviathan. Designed and supervised construction of FDNY's
"Firerfighter" the worlds most powerful fireboat. Designed and supervised the construction of WWII Liberty Ships with Henry Kaiser, Designed the fast attack Fletcher Class Destroyers, and LST Landing Craft used on D-Day. He served on U.S. Navy Battleship Design Board which constructed the battleship Missouri. He also designed the worlds fastest ocean liner the S.S. United States. This ship still holds the record for the fastest transatlantic crossing by a passenger ship. He also designed the largest and most powerful land based fire engine the "Super Pumper" for New York City.
