Author. After his left-leaning works were banned by the Nazis he was forced to emigrate in 1933 and eventually came to New York. Here he never gave up his Bavarian roots (among other things he walked the streets of Manhattan in Lederhosen) and wrote many humorous narratives about life in the villages at home, as well as memoirs of his own eventful years.

One year after his death, in accordance with his wishes, his ashes were interred here at Bogenhausen.
