The following was taken from Monday afternoons Greensboro Record.
Mr. Jesse Thomas Abbott died Sunday at his residence on Lindsay Street, after an illness of some time from of stomach trouble.
Jesse Thomas Abbott, a son of William and Amanda Corbin Abbot, his wife, was born in Chatham near Pittsylvania County, Va., on December 8, 1843.
Entering the Confederate Army at the outbreak of hostilities between the states, he served throughout the War as one of "the men behind the guns" and made an honorable record.
He came to Greensboro, N.C. in 1863 and entered the service of Tarpley and Yarborough, a firm manufacturing machinery, that was later on succeeded by the Sergeant Manufacturing Company. His connection with this firm lasted for 41 years.
He established and was with the first volunteer fire company in Danville, Va. for 40 years.
