Like his father, Fred owned a farm in Shiawassee County, where the family lived until the children were grown. In 1917. Fred and Maud moved to Lansing, Michigan, where Fred worked as a motorman on a Streetcar.
Between 1920 and 1930, Fred and Maud were divorced. Fred then married Mary J. Goodwin on May 29, 1929. The couple moved to Melvindale, where Fred worked as a Master Mechanic.
Fred died in Detroit, Michigan on May 23, 1954 at the age of 79. He was buried in the family plot between his Mother Sarah and older sister Palmyra (who had died in 1876 of Scarlet Fever).
