History of Southampton Mass: When Fort William Henry (located 60 miles north of Albany NY on the southern tip of lake George) was surrendered to the treacherous French in 1757 (Aug 10), two men Joel Clapp & Nathaniel Loomis escaped naked from the Indians after a terrible run of 14 miles through the forest.
Served in the War of the American Revolution under Capt. Ebenezer Sheldon in the 7th Co of Volunteers 1782.
