GREENSBORO - Ms. Willa Norris Lawrence passed quietly away on April 5, 2013, at Countryside Manor.

A graveside service will be held at Green Hill Cemetery in Greensboro, on Saturday April 13 at 12 p.m.

Born in Durham, NC on May 19, 1908, Willa was the daughter of Cary Floyd Lawrence and Bessie Irene Norris. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Norris Lawrence, Sr., his wife Willa Campbell Lawrence, and their son, Richard Campbell Lawrence.

She is survived by her nephew, William Norris Lawrence Jr. of Mooresville NC.

Willa was valedictorian in her class of 1925 from Asheville High School; in 1929 she graduated with honors from Randolph-Macon College in Lynchburg, Virginia. She joined Myers Department store in 1942 and retired in 1973 as Fashion Coordinator and Publicity Director. An independent woman ahead of her time, Will lived her life to the fullest.
A lifelong member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Willa was proud of her collegiate affiliation and many AAUW friends over the years. Willa had many interests throughout her life, and traveled a good deal. She was an accomplished artist and an avid history buff and reader. She was always stylish and a person of grace and wit. An active parishioner of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro, Willa engaged in many church activities and also organized numerous events at Countryside Village in Stokesdale. A unique person, Willa touched the lives of many in her 104 years.
