Services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Burkburnett on February 26, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Don Pellikan, officiating. Interment will follow in Burkburnett Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett.
Effie Mae was born in Cordell, Oklahoma, on February 11, 1902. She married Luther Caffee on September 17, 1922. When 4 years old, she moved with her family to Portales, New Mexico, in a buggy and covered wagon. At age 15, her family moved to Ralls, Texas, where she graduated from high school. At age 20 she married Luther and moved to Burkburnett. Effie Mae was a steadfast member of First United Methodist Church, served as president and was a life member of the Wesley Bible Sunday School Class and Women's Society of Christian Service (aka United Methodist Women). Effie Mae was a member and past president of the Burkburnett Garden Club and the Current Literature Study Club. She worked at Manhattan Department Store for 16 years. She remained active in the Burkburnett Senior Citizen Center until she moved to Royal Estates in 2007. She was recognized and honored at age 105 by the Burkburnett Chamber of Commerce as the oldest citizen in the community. Effie Mae legally drove in the town of Burk up to the age of 107. She participated in the New England Centenarian Study which focuses on longevity. Her blood has been cataloged in the archives at the Boston University Medical School where it will be saved for research. According to the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) as of February 11, 2013, Effie was the oldest verified person in the state of Texas and the 59th oldest verified person in the world.
Effie Mae is survived by her children, Janice Vincent of Burkburnett and Charles Caffee of Iowa Park; one daughter-in-law, Irene Caffee of Iowa Park; three grandchildren, Jan Snedegar and husband Jimmy, Debbie Hunley and husband Jim, and Jon Caffee; four great-grandchildren, Kim Mulford and husband Todd, Kelly Huber and husband Keith, Alexa Brown and husband Brian, and Kenda Chapman and husband Kevin; and six great-great-grandchildren, Addison Mae Mulford, Bailey, Hunter, and Austin Huber, and Dylan and Emory Brown; three nieces, Marjorie Criswell, Doris Matthews, Beatrice Tate; and one nephew, Donald Schoolcraft. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years; seven siblings; and one son-in-law, Bill Vincent.
The family will receive friends at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett on Monday, February 25, 2013, from 6 until 7:30 p.m.
