Sgt. Michael Scott Evans, II, a Louisiana National Guardsman, was killed on Friday, January 28, 2005 in Baghdad in the line of duty. He was 22. Beloved husband of Melissa ''Missy'' Herbert Evans (Metairie, LA). Son of Michael Scott Evans and Wynette Evans (Jacksonville, FL). Brother of Davin Evans (Virginia Beach, VA), Marybeth Evans (Jacksonville, FL) and Dana Novinger (Maryland). Brother-in-law of Heather Evans and John Novinger. Grandson of Diana Norman and the late Norman Evans, John H. Thornton and Georgianna Thornton. Sgt. Evans was a resident of Marrero, LA for the past 6 years and was a graduate of the Louisiana Youth Challenge Program. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the service on Friday, February 04, 2005 at 4:00 PM at Leitz Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM. Services are also planned in Florida. For details, please contact Town and Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL (904) 781-9262. Interment will be in Riverside Memorial Park, Jacksonville, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that contributions be made to the Family Support Fund, 2225th Panel Bridge Co., 1855 Ames Blvd., Marrero, LA 70072. The monies collected will be used to purchase care packages for Sgt. Evans' battalion.
