Spc. Christopher R. Drake, 20, of Tickfaw, La., died May 26, in Bagram, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when his vehicle was attacked by a rocket propelled grenade. He was assigned to the 1084th Transportation Company, 165th Combat Support Sustainment Battalion, 139th Regional Support Group, Reserve, La. Drake joined the LANG as a truck driver in September of 2011, and he completed his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. During his deployment, Drake served as a gunner on a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle. He was last serving as a part of Operation Enduring Freedom, assigned to the 1084th Transportation Company, Combat Support Sustainment Battalion, 139th Regional Support Group, Reserve, Louisiana. Chris attended Independence High School and Hammond High School. Chris was one of about 115 soldiers based in the River Parishes who are in the early stages of a yearlong deployment. The National Guard gave the 1084th a send-off ceremony in February, in LaPlace. Spc Drake was the father of a 3 year-old and was engaged to be married. He was a 2011 graduate of Independence High School, in Independence, La.
