Army Spc Cote was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment, Task Force 49, Fort Wainwright, Alaska. He died of wounds sustained when the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter he was in crashed. The helicopter was caught in a sandstorm and everyone else on board survived. Michael graduated in 2007 from Denham Springs High School in Denham Springs, Louisiana. Right after graduation, he joined the Army in July and his job was to repair Blackhawk helicopters. It wasn't a surprise when he went into a career in flight because he was always intrigued by aircraft. He always knew what he wanted to become and how he wanted to live his life. Michael loved to fish and play video games but then he achieved his dream of having a family. When he would be home on leave, he wanted to spend all his time with his wife, Ashlee, and infant daughter. Ashlee wants people to know that Michael should be remembered not only for his service to our country but also for the fun-loving, make the best out of any situation, happy-go-lucky guy that had a true love for children and fatherhood. In his short life he achieved his dreams and died a very happy husband, father and soldier.
