CARROLL, MARY SPURRIER - age 65 of Farragut, beloved wife, perpetually loving mother and grandmother, dear, devoted sister, aunt, daughter and friend, won her courageous battle with cancer of 8.5 years on Christmas Eve and crossed into heaven into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior. Mary was preceded in death by her parents W. M. and Frances Spurrier and her sister Barbara Spurrier Clouse. She is survived by her husband, Ronnie Carroll and daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda & Scott Sims of Nashville and Ginny & Thomas Herrick of Farragut; her four adored grandchildren, Virginia Taylor Sims, Samuel Dale Herrick, Mary Lydia Sims and Lily Elaine Herrick; sister Martha Spurrier May of Charlotte, NC; father and mother-in-law, Hubert and Faye Carroll of LaFollette, TN; nephews and niece, Lawrence (Chip) Clouse, Jr., Brian Clouse, and Frances Scott Phillips. Mary Frances Spurrier was born October 27, 1947 in Charlotte, NC. She graduated from Myers Park High School and Columbia College, receiving her degree in Education. Later in Atlanta Mary was introduced to her best friend and beloved Ronnie. They married November 20, 1970 and were happily married for 42 years. Mary sought to serve other people in any way she could. For many years, she loved volunteering in the Farragut Schools' Clinics, helping many youth who needed more than medical attention. She served her daughters and their friends through their activities, including serving on the Board of the Knoxville Children's Showchoir. Mary also volunteered in the Concord Hills Women's Club and delivered Meals on Wheels, enjoying her relationships with the recipients. Mary also volunteered in various tasks at her church of 27 years, Concord United Methodist, including at the reception desk, as a Stephen Minister, Staff Parish Committee member, organizing a greeting committee and any other behind-the-scenes task where help was needed. Mary was so thankful for all the medical care, love and support she received at The Cancer Center at The University of Tennessee Medical Center and the Thompson Cancer Survival Center. In particular, she enjoyed the care of Dr. Allen Grossman, her oncologist who became a friend. She was blessed with the love of so many special friends who continuously supported her throughout her battle with cancer.
