Rogue rafter, 17, dies
Rogue River (AP)-A rafting accident has claimed the life of a 17 year old Torrance, Calif., boy on a narrow stretch of the Rogue River, Jackson County authorities say.
Michael Dallen was rafting with a companion, David Fears, 17, also of Torrance, Monday afternoon when their raft overturned one-quarter mile north of the Natural Bridge campground, said Sandra Wright, a records clerk in Jackson County.
Fears swam to shore to notify authorities of the accident. A dive team from the Jackson County sheriff’s department found Dallen’s body in the water 250 yards north of the campground at 3:40 p.m., Wright said.
Neither boy was wearing a life jacket, she said.
